Inferno Vorticity operator

The Inferno Vorticity operator allows you to modify Inferno simulation vorticity settings.

Enabling “adaptive vorticity” in the Birth Inferno operator will use default adaptive vorticity values. Add an Inferno Vorticity operator to override those defaults with your own values.

Advanced Rollout

The Advanced rollout provides per-channel relative controls that modulate the vorticity based on local simulation values. Each channel can be enabled independently and configured with a min/max range and a curve.

  • Vorticity relative to density: when enabled, vorticity will be scaled based on the local density value.

  • Vorticity relative to fuel: when enabled, vorticity will be scaled based on the local fuel value.

  • Vorticity relative to temperature: when enabled, vorticity will be scaled based on the local temperature value.

  • Vorticity relative to velocity: when enabled, vorticity will be scaled based on the local velocity magnitude.

  • Vorticity relative to meshes: when enabled, vorticity will be scaled based on proximity to the specified mesh objects.

  • Zero distance if inside volume: when enabled, voxels that fall inside the mesh volume will be treated as having zero distance to the surface, causing the relative multiplier to use the minimum value for those voxels.

Inferno Vorticity Rollout

  • Mode: controls how the vorticity value is applied.

Set vorticity: the vorticity value will be set to the specified amount, overriding any existing value specified in the simulation’s Birth Inferno operator.

Add to vorticity: the specified vorticity value will be added to any existing simulation vorticity values (the one specified in the simulation’s Birth Inferno operator, or any other Inferno Vorticity operators).

  • Vorticity: the amount of rotational energy preserved in the simulation. Higher values produce more swirling, turbulent behavior.

  • Surface bias: controls how much the affect of vorticity is biased towards the surface of plumes, allowing for more overall internal motion/broiling/rolling due to velocity conservation having less of a dampening effect on the interior of plumes.

  • Constraint %: when enabled, the maximum magnitude of vorticity forces applied to the velocity field will be clamped to the specified percentage. Useful for preventing vorticity from generating excessive velocities in highly turbulent regions.

  • Conservation bias: controls the extent to which vorticity preservation added by this operator will be preserved before/after the simulation’s conservation step. 0 means vorticity will be preserved entirely before conservation, 1 means entirely after, and values between 0-1 means vorticity will be preserved partially before and after.

Adaptive Vorticity

  • Enable adaptive vorticity: when enabled, vorticity will be scaled automatically based on the direction of normals within the advancing fluid domain.

  • Override advanced settings: when enabled, the default adaptive vorticity parameters will be replaced with the values specified below.

Advanced Settings
  • Front plume blend: the blend weight between standard and adaptive vorticity at the front of the advancing fluid plume.

  • Front plume mult: the vorticity multiplier applied at the front face of the fluid plume.

  • Front plume limit: the maximum additional vorticity value permitted at the front of the plume, relative to fluid velocity.

  • Back plume mult: the vorticity multiplier applied at the back of the fluid plume.

  • Back plume limit: the maximum additional vorticity value permitted at the back of the plume, relative to fluid velocity.

Vorticity Noise Rollout

  • Noise mode: controls which noise algorithm will be used.

  • Noise texmap: the texmap that will be used by the noise texmap mode(s).

  • Noise preview: a preview image showing a 2D representation of the selected noise mode.

  • Strength: the strength of the noise (a multiplier on the default noise range of [-1, 1]).

  • Frequency: the speed at which the noise will evolve over time.

  • Scale: the scale multiplier for position values sent through the noise algorithm. Smaller values create larger noise patterns.

  • Roughness: controls the amount of extra detail applicable noise modes will generate.

  • Lacunarity: controls the scale of successive noise octaves for applicable noise modes.

  • Gain: controls the relative intensity of successive noise octaves for applicable noise modes.

  • Iterations/Octaves: controls the number of overlapping noise patterns that applicable noise modes will generate.

  • Phase: provides manual control over the evolution of the noise over time.
