The Inferno to VDB operator converts Inferno sparse simulation grids into OpenVDB-compatible grids for use in tyFlow’s VDB operator pipeline.
By converting Inferno grids to OpenVDB format, the simulation data becomes available to any downstream operator that consumes VDB data. This allows Inferno simulations to be modified, displayed, converted and exported using standard VDB operators. For example, you can use this operator to output Inferno data to an event containing a VDB Mesh operator, in order to convert an Inferno smoke or fire simulation into an animated VDB mesh.
Solver: grid data is taken directly from the live solver each frame.
Recall cache: grid data is taken from cached data stored by an Inferno Recall operator.
Each channel can be enabled independently. When enabled, the corresponding simulation grid will be written into the output VDB under the specified name.
Density: when enabled, the density grid will be output.
Temperature: when enabled, the temperature grid will be output.
Units: when enabled, temperature values will be converted from the simulation’s internal normalized units into the specified unit system before being written to the VDB.
Fuel: when enabled, the fuel grid will be output.
Color: when enabled, the color grid will be output.
Velocity: when enabled, the velocity grid will be output.
Add: the output values are added to existing values in the target VDB.
Intersect: only values present in both the output and the target VDB are retained.
Multiply: the output values are multiplied with existing values in the target VDB.
Set: existing values in the target VDB are replaced with the output values.
Subtract: the output values are subtracted from existing values in the target VDB.
Resample if uninitialized: when enabled, and the target event’s VDB has not yet been initialized, the output grid will be resampled to the specified voxel size before being written.
Voxel size: the target voxel size to resample to when the output grid is uninitialized.
