Inferno Modify operator

The Inferno Modify operator allows you to modify active voxels of an Inferno simulation.

The Inferno Modify operator lets you continuously push simulation channel values toward a target state while the simulation is running. Using the relative channel controls in the Advanced rollout, the strength of each modification can be driven by local density, temperature, velocity, or proximity to mesh objects - allowing effects like temperature being modulated by mesh proximity, density being attenuated in slow-moving regions, or fuel being added in areas with high velocity.

Advanced Rollout

The Advanced rollout provides per-channel relative controls that scale the overall modification effect based on local simulation values. Each channel can be enabled independently and configured with a min/max range and a curve.

  • Modification relative to density: when enabled, the modification effect will be scaled based on the local density value.

  • Modification relative to fuel: when enabled, the modification effect will be scaled based on the local fuel value.

  • Modification relative to temperature: when enabled, the modification effect will be scaled based on the local temperature value.

  • Modification relative to velocity: when enabled, the modification effect will be scaled based on the local velocity magnitude.

  • Modification relative to meshes: when enabled, the modification effect will be scaled based on proximity to the specified mesh objects.

  • Zero distance if inside volume: when enabled, voxels that fall inside the mesh volume will be treated as having zero distance to the surface, causing the relative multiplier to use the minimum value for those voxels.

Inferno Modify Rollout

Each channel section works the same way. Enable the channel toggle to expose its settings. The Operation dropdown determines how the specified value is applied to existing voxel data. Value, Interpolation, and Full interpolation on emission are only visible when relevant to the selected operation.

Density

  • Modify density: enables density modification.

  • Operation: the method used to modify existing density values.

None: no modification applied.

Add: the specified value is added to existing density values each step.

Multiply: existing density values are multiplied by the specified value each step.

Set: existing density values are replaced with the specified value, blended according to the interpolation setting.

  • Value: the value used in the operation.

  • Interpolation: the blend factor used when blending between the existing value and the target value. Only available when operation is set to “Set”.

  • Full interpolation on emission: when enabled, voxels that are undergoing emissions at the current time step will be assigned the modification override immediately, rather than interpolating towards it for interpolation values less than 1.0.

  • Clamp: when enabled, the resulting density value will be clamped to the specified min/max range after the operation is applied.

Fuel

  • Modify fuel: enables fuel modification.

  • Operation: the method used to modify existing fuel values. Options are the same as for Density.

  • Clamp: when enabled, the resulting fuel value will be clamped to the specified min/max range.

Temperature

  • Modify temperature: enables temperature modification.

  • Operation: the method used to modify existing temperature values. Options are the same as for Density.

  • Clamp: when enabled, the resulting temperature value will be clamped to the specified min/max range.

Pressure

  • Modify pressure: enables pressure modification.

  • Operation: the method used to modify existing pressure values. Options are the same as for Density.

  • Clamp: when enabled, the resulting pressure value will be clamped to the specified min/max range.
